YSL Forever Youth serum goes on display in Berlin Museum

Every day, there are new scientific breakthroughs, and it's no different in the world of skin care. Without the pivotal discoveries and exploring what used to be far-fetched hypotheses, the technology in our skin care would not be as advanced as it is today. YSL is no stranger to seeing its products on display in stores, but a museum is first for the L’Oréal-owned brand.

YSL Beauté’s Forever Youth Liberator Serum is now on show at Berlin Museum’s exhibition called Sugars and Beyond! Food – Matter – Energy. The new, permanent exhibition aims to educate visitors about the topic of sugar from different perspectives.

The YSL serum was chosen to be exhibited due to its early interest in and adoption of scientific discoveries surrounding glycobiology (the biology of sugar chains). In 2012, YSL launched Forever Youth Liberator Serum, which was quickly hailed as a skin care phenomenon. The product contains the highest concentration of the active ingredient Glycanactif, which is composed of three naturally occurring sugars or glycans. The active is said to help unlock the potential for youthful skin, helping to even out the complexion and impart radiance.

Dr Bruno A Bernard, L’Oréal Fellow and Member of YSL.SKINSCIENCE Committee, said: “30 years ago, when I started working on glycobiology, it was still very early days for this sector. Thanks to tremendous technical progress, it can now be applied to the skin. The latest discoveries are considerable and enable us to open up a new lead in the world of cosmetics. The point is that the youthfulness of skin is now being decoded in a radically different way.”

Professor Peter Seeberger, Director of the Biomolecular Systems Department at the Max Planck Institutem and Member of YSL.SKINSCIENCE Committee, added: “The realms of glycobiology offer huge challenges and opportunities. We are seeing the emergence of ground-breaking applications in the sector of living sciences. The importance of glycans as a ‘third language’ is now acknowledged and is opening the door to new products and applications, and cosmetics is just one of its application.”
